On Nov. 4, I will be voting for Rep. Gary Plummer. We can all be proud of the common sense approach he subscribes to in Augusta.

For example, if you think it is a good idea that Maine no longer issues driver’s licenses to non-resident illegal aliens, you should thank Plummer for putting a stop to it. You can now have confidence that qualifying for a Maine driver’s license no longer means that one simply passed a driver’s test and was still breathing, somewhere, but not necessarily in Maine.

Amazingly, 72 House members opposed this bill in the first roll call, only one vote shy of succeeding at killing it altogether. Until LD 2309 passed in April, Maine was one of only four or five states to offer valid state driver’s licenses to non-resident illegal aliens, which arguably carries serious security implications, as well as access to a plethora of benefits that I would prefer we prioritize for good, longstanding Maine residents who didn’t move here last week for the benefit package.

If you think about it – one vote – Gary’s vote, brought this legislation to fruition.

Thank you Gary, – indeed you have my vote.
