The Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic will sponsor its four-part diabetes education program, Oct. 27, 29, Nov. 3 and 5, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the hospital clinic wing.

These classes are designed to give general information about diabetes and help the patient manage their diabetes. The course also introduces patients to a diabetes support system. A dietary consultation is required, and should be done before the classes begin. Please contact dietician Linda Russell at 647-6062 to schedule an appointment.

Program topics include the importance of exercise and physical activity, healthy meal plans and diabetes, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms, medications to control diabetes, complications and diabetes, diabetes and eye care, and diabetes and proper foot care. Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee.

The series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention).

In addition to Elaine Drew, a registered nurse who is also a certified diabetes nurse educator, lecturers will include Dr. N. Scott Ferguson, an optometrist, and Bridgton Hospital pharmicist Denyell Gerchman, Russell, and Karen Bogdan, an occupational therapist.

Participants are encouraged to bring a relative or a friend with them. For more information about the program or to register call Drew at 647-6064.
