Home again, home again

Because of the rainy weather last weekend, Gray-New Gloucester High School’s homecoming weekend has been rescheduled to Saturday Oct. 4, at the high school on Route 26 in Gray.

The day’s activities include a parade at 1 p.m. and booths offering food (including the famous apple crisp made by students) and fun open 1-6 p.m.

Games include a 2 p.m. varsity field hockey match, followed by the junior varsity game at 3:30 p.m., the jv girls soccer playing at 4 p.m. and the varsity girls soccer playing at 5:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. bonfire. Call the high school at 657-3323 for more information.

Tour and eat

An emergency medical services-related open house sponsored by Gray Fire and Rescue will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., followed by a spaghetti supper, 5-7 p.m. Both will be held at the fire barn at 125 Shaker Road. The open house is free and the spaghetti supper is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-12, and children under 3 eat free. For more information call 657-3931, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Vendors wanted

Russell School’s fourth annual holiday craft fair is Saturday, Nov. 1 at Gray-New Gloucester High School. Anyone interested in being a vendor at the fair can contact Connie at 657-9620 or e-mail at cholland@msad15.org for an application.

Thriller of a dance

On Oct. 25 at 2 p.m., people all over the world will be dancing simultaneously to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” attempting to break a Guinness world record for the most people dancing “Thriller” at the same time.

The Gray-New Gloucester Middle School Drama Club has joined the “Thrill the World” team and will be an event site. To prepare dancers can learn the dance Saturday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.-noon in the middle school cafeteria. Imagine whirled peace

Gray-New Gloucester Middle School students participated in an international art and literacy project called Pinwheels for Peace Sept. 22. by planting pinwheels with messages of peace in front of the school.

Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by art teachers Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan of Coconut Creek, Fla., as a way for students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. In 2007 more than 1.2 million pinwheels were planted in over 2,500 locations globally. Locally, Gray-New Gloucester Middle School’s art teacher, Barbie Weed, coordinated the Pinwheels for Peace project this year as a part of the school’s Wellness Day.

Bid early, bid often

The Gray New Gloucester Business Association is still looking for donations for its annual auction. The format has changed from a TV auction venue to a silent auction night this year. Everyone may view the items online before the auction and then at the silent auction Oct. 17 at Spring Meadows Golf Club in Gray. The event starts at 7 p.m., and costs $5 to attend. Light snacks and a cash bar will be available.

Founded in 2001, “Not Your Mother’s Garden Club” meets monthly and new members are always welcome. The club is interested in the beautification of yards, the community, and educating members and others about the world of plants. Upcoming meetings include fall bouquets, making herbal bath salts and other products, holiday party, making soap, seed and plant swaps, annual pot luck supper, may baskets, perennial plant sale, annual bus trip, water gardening, pool party, pontoon boat rides and more. The club usually meets the first Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m., at the Gorrill-Palmer office, 15 Shaker Road in Gray.

Suppertime

A bean and chop suey supper will be held at the American Legion Hall on Lewiston Road (Route 100) in Gray, Sat. Oct. 4, 5-6 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12, and free for children 5 and under. Call 657-4884 for more information.

Trying again

Because of last week’s rain, The Ultimate Fall Yard Sales has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 4, at Stonehedge on Route 115 at the Gray/Windham town line, 8 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Students at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School took part in an international celebration by planting pinwheels adorned with messages of peace Sept. 22.
