Casco’s public safety workers will show off equipment and provide activities and information for adults and children at the fifth annual Public Safety Day Saturday, Sept. 27.

The Casco Fire Department is hosting the free event, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Central Fire Station on Meadow Road.

Scott Avery, assistant fire chief, said the event is a chance for the department to reach out to the public and let people know where their tax money is going.

There will be fire and rescue equipment on display, Avery said, as well as activities. Groups attending the event include the Salvation Army, State Police, Masons of Maine, Casco Fire and Rescue Departments, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Region ATV Club.

Some of the demonstrations and activities will include a canine demonstration by the state police, blood pressure screenings by the Casco Rescue Department and an extrication demonstration by the Casco Fire Department.

Members of the Masons will make identification cards for children, including computerized fingerprints. Also planned for children are a smoke house, where they learn how to escape a burning home, and instructions on how to call 911.

Avery, who said around 400 people showed up last year, welcomed Casco residents and members of surrounding communities to attend.

“The more the merrier,” Avery said.
