Four remaining Sebago selectmen need to decide if and when they will hold an election to fill Abe Parker’s seat on the board.

Parker’s resignation, which he announced at the Aug. 5 selectmen’s meeting, is effective Aug. 31. He was elected to the seat in 2007, and his term would have expired in 2010.

Selectmen are planning to discuss the question at their next meeting on Sept. 16, according to Town Manager Robert Nicholson.

According to the Maine Municipal Association’s municipal officer’s manual, the remaining selectmen are not required to fill the vacancy. If they decide to do so, the seat must be filled through an election. In the case of an election, the new selectman would serve for the remainder of Parker’s term.
