These men seem to be having a pretty good time, considering they’re building a barn! Yes, this is a barn raising, held at Frank Sawyer’s house on the Webb Road, early in the 1900s.
As any old farmer knows, spontaneous combustion happens when a barn has wet hay inside and that’s what happened here, or in local jargon, “the barn blew up.” Neighbors and relatives quickly got together and built a new barn.
Unfortunately, no names were attached to this old photo and there probably aren’t many in town who would know any of these people. (Courtesy photo loaned to Kay Soldier)
