Almost two weeks after the accident, a Baldwin woman died Aug. 14 from injuries sustained in a truck collision in Standish.
The head-on collision that put Norma Thomas, 83, in the hospital happened at around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3, on Route 113.
Thomas was riding with her son Ronald Thomas, 58, of Baldwin and Brian Peters, 38, near the intersection of Watchic Road and Route 113 when a 2005 GMC Sierra driven by Bruce Harmon, 19, of Steep Falls crossed the center line.
Harmon’s truck was hit near its passenger door by the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ronald Thomas, according to Capt. Jeff Davis of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Amanda Griffis, 19, of Standish, a passenger in Harmon’s truck, was also hospitalized because of the collision. She has since been released from Maine Medical Center.
Davis said it appeared Harmon drifted onto the shoulder and then swerved back across the center line as he tried to correct his course.
Norma Thomas was born in Baldwin on Feb. 1, 1925 and worked for over 30 years at Vulcan Electric in Kezar Falls, retiring in 1987. She is survived by five children, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren
As of Tuesday, the sheriff’s office was still investigating the cause of the collision, Davis said, adding that alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor.
