In an effort to save money, Raymond selectmen have decided to cut back the time the town office is open while also reducing the number of hours for one front office position.

Starting in mid-August, the town office will open at noon on Tuesdays instead of 8:30 a.m., though the town will continue to keep the office open Tuesday nights until 7 p.m.

The selectmen also cut the number of hours worked by the deputy tax collector, and ordered the heat in the town office cut to 55 after the office is closed Saturdays.

The town will realize $15,000 in savings from cutting back the position, and additional savings will be created through lower heating costs, Town Manager Don Willard said.

The rest of the town office schedule will stay the same, said Willard. In order to give residents and visitors alike ample opportunity to get business done at the town office, the board opted to maintain weekend hours.

Visitors often need to come in over the weekend, Willard said, while many residents work outside of the region and can only go to the town office on Saturdays.

“The selectmen feel the Saturday hours are extremely important,” Willard added.

The new town office hours are: Tuesday, noon-7 p.m.; Wednesday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-noon.
