The November races for the Legislature are in a state of flux, with nine declared candidates for Senate and 36 for the House dropping out and new candidates expected to come in at least for some of the contests.

Local party caucuses must decide replacement candidates, if ones are to be named, by July 28.

In the Senate, where Democrats currently hold a one-vote advantage over Republicans, five Republican, two Democratic and two Green candidates have dropped out. The affected districts include:

District 6 in Cumberland County where Republican Peter Davis quit the race. The Democrat in the race is incumbent Sen. Phil Bartlett.

District 7 in Cumberland County where Republican John Ridge dropped out and already has been replaced by Thomas Dunne. He will face Democratic Rep. Larry Bliss.

District 8 in Cumberland County where Green candidate Kevin Gardella dropped out leaving Democrat Justin Alfond and Republican Eric Lusk in the race.

District 10 in Cumberland County, where Republican Donna Thompson and Green Marybeth Bergquist dropped out. The Democrat in the race is Rep. Stan Gerzofsky.

District 16 in Androscoggin County where Republican Corey Nelson Troup dropped out. The Democrat in the race is Rep. Margaret Craven.

District 25 in Kennebec County where Republican Wayne Leach dropped out. The Democrat in the race is incumbent Sen. Lisa Marrache.

District 29 in Washington County where Democrat Charles Cameron dropped out. The Republican in the race is incumbent Sen. Kevin Raye.

District 33 in Penobscot County where Democrat Mary Poulin dropped out. The Republican in the race is incumbent Sen. Debra Plowman.

In the 36 House contests, 12 Democrats dropped out; 19 Republicans; and, 5 Greens.
