On Sunday, June 22, a group of walkers took a walk from the Eagles Club in New Gloucester, bound for the American Legion in Gray. Their cause was a fundraiser for breast cancer research. Their goal was to not only reach their physical destination, but to raise awareness and have some fun at the same time.

Over $1,000 was raised due to the generosity and support of those who pledged. This walk represented a much bigger walk to be taken by Vicky Liberty and Betty Carter in New York City in October. They have pledged to raise $1,800 each for breast cancer research in the Avonwalk event.

Other upcoming fundraising events include a pancake breakfast at the New Gloucester Amvets on Route 100 on July 20 and a one-pitch softball tournament mid-August, also to be held in New Gloucester.

Anyone wishing to get more information about these two events, or wishing to make a donation, can contact either Liberty or Carter at outby_50@yahoo.com.

A big thanks to all of you who are there to support this worthy cause. Early detection does save lives! I know, I am one that was saved!
