The deep purple of blue flag irises, the shocking pink of sheep’s laurel, and the steady red of pitcher plants are bright stars in a sea of green at Holt Pond this time of year.

Join Lakes Environmental Association staff Colin Holme and Bridie McGreavy to explore this sea and its stars in a native plant walk at Holt Pond Wednesday, July 2, at 9 a.m.

This walk will focus on native plants in the wild, but also on how property owners can integrate native planting into home gardens and erosion control projects.

This program will last approximately two hours and will cover easy to moderate terrain. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, water and a snack are recommended. Participants should meet at the association Lakes Center, 230 Main St. in Bridgton to carpool to the preserve.

This program is free for Lakes Environmental Association members and $5 per person for non-members. For more information and to let the association know you will attend, please call 647-8580 or e-mail bridie@leamaine.org.
