A fine season for the Gray-New Gloucester softball team came to an end in the Western Maine Class B semifinals on Saturday on the road against Fryeburg Academy.

The No. 4 Patriots fell to the top-seeded Raiders 5-0. Fryeburg junior pitcher Hannah Hill, recently named the Gatorade Maine softball player of the year, limited Gray-New Gloucester to one hit and struck out 13.

The Patriots finished the season at 13-5 with two of those losses coming to Fryeburg (17-1) during the regular season, 5-1 at home in May and 5-0 on the road in June.

With no seniors on the roster, Gray-New Gloucester should return a strong team next season. Sophomore Laura Getchell established herself as one of the Western Maine Conference’s top pitchers, averaging over 10 strikeouts a game.
