For more than a century, there was a Hawkes store in Windham Center. The building was also used for a school, residence, an addition was made for the first phone office – altogether, it is an historic corner. Here is what it looked like when the sign read “Fred S. Hawkes”, and the transportation mode was horse and buggy. Today, it is the site of Corsetti’s Store. (One of many photos from the archives of Windham Historical Society)
