Sebago residents will consider a more than $1.7 million municipal budget at the annual town meeting on Saturday.

Town meeting will be held at the town hall at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7. Afterwards, hot dogs, coffee, and donuts will be served.

“We’re really hoping to be able to reduce taxes in Sebago,” said chairman of the board of selectman Allen Crabtree. He said the biggest challenge in putting together the budget was dealing with the uncertainty of the School Administrative District 61 budget. Though the town budget is level with the current fiscal year, school and county tax requirements increased.

Another challenge, Crabtree said, was to separate the needs from the wants. He said the proposed budget meets the town’s needs without including any fat. The proposed budget includes funds to shift the town to single stream recycling, which Crabtree said would save the town money. The budget also reduces funds for street lights and increases funds for Sebago Days.

“It was a very intense budget season this year,” Crabtree said.
