A Raymond man was killed Monday afternoon when his car hit a tree on Route 85 in that town, according to Maine State Police.

Christopher Ball, 40, was traveling north on Route 85 at around 5:30 p.m. at a high rate of speed in his 2005 Cadillac CTS when he lost control and went off the road, according to Maine State Trooper Joseph Bureau.

Bureau said Ball’s car spun around after he passed another vehicle and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the car. Ball was declared dead at the scene.

Blood tests will be made because the accident was a fatal one, but Bureau said there was no preliminary indication that alcohol or drugs are a cause of the accident. Ball was driving with a valid license, and Bureau said speed and wet road conditions contributed to the accident.
