Got Coffee?
For those of you who have missed your cappuccino, latte, or mocha drip over the winter, fear not, the return of spring means the return of the Standish Coffee Capp.
Located at Standish Corner at routes 25 and 35, in the same parking lot as All About You Tanning, the Coffee Capp has been a town staple for the last four years, but closed this winter to make what owner Kathleen Locke said, were “necessary changes.”
“Our regular customers were always giving us suggestions to add things they would enjoy,” said Locke. “So I decided to close for the season to implement those suggestions. Now we are back with everything our customers wanted.”
In addition to serving Green Mountain Coffee, fruit smoothies, specialty drinks, and baked goods, the Coffee Capp will now be offering breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and daily lunch time sandwich specials. Perhaps the most exciting addition to the coffee boutique will be the addition of Shain’s of Maine ice cream which can be eaten in or ordered from the drive through window.
Locke is no stranger to coffee or ice cream. She started her chain of drive through coffee shops almost 20 years ago, and currently has four locations including on the Naples Causeway, and a spot in the time and temperature building in downtown Portland. Sometime this summer she will be re-opening her original location in Windham just down the street from her son Troy’s ice cream business.
“My son owns the Dugout in Windham,” said Locke. “So having ice cream in my shops is something I have been thinking about for awhile,” said Locke. “Since there is no longer a place to get ice cream in Standish, I thought this would be the perfect time.”
Locke won’t promise to have hundreds of flavors, but she will promise to make her customers happy.
Besides the new food additions, the Coffee Capp will also be under new management. Standish resident Ashley Pappalardo, will be baking, brewing and scooping at the Capp six days a week.
The grand opening will be held Monday, May 5, from 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and will include drink and ice cream specials, and an opportunity to try a slice of the famous Coffee Capp sour cream coffee cake.

Bonny Eagle High School students Perry Cyr and Zach Litif were selected by American Legion Memorial Post 128 to attend the 61st annual Dirigo Boys State program at Thomas College in Waterville from June 15-19.
The Boys State program allows high school juniors to supplement their civics courses, as students role-play, campaign for office, and then organize and carry out the functions of government.
The students were nominated by the Bonny Eagle faculty and selected by Post 128 because they have demonstrated above their peers the desired qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their school and community.
Each student was also presented with an American Legion School Award Medal, which is the highest honor awarded to American youth by the American Legion.
