Gray man named to RPI all-academic team

Max Molleo, a junior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., has been named to the 2008 Liberty League spring all-academic team.

Molleo, a chemistry major who runs for RPI’s track and field team, was one of 79 athletes from RPI selected to the team. Honored athletes must be sophomores, juniors or seniors with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

Windham native starring for USM track

Derek Murchie of Windham, a senior at the University of Southern Maine, is having a successful season on the track for the Huskies this spring.

Murchie, a sprinter, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.48 seconds at a meet against Colby, Bates and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology held on April 12 at Colby in Waterville.

In addition to his win in the 200, Murchie also placed second in the 100 with a time of 11.3 seconds, helping USM to a third place finish at the meet.

On April 5, Murchie and the Huskies traveled to Fitchburg, Mass., for the Fitchburg State Invitational. Murchie had a strong performance at the meet, finishing third in the 100 meters (11.27 seconds) and fifth in the 200 meters (22.91 seconds), helping the Huskies to an overall finish of third out 17 teams competing at the meet.
