Candidates for Bridgton town government seats include one selectman seeking a shorter term, a former Bridgton Police sergeant, and a veteran school board member, all running for selectman.
Selectmen Robert C. Bell and Robert McHatton Sr will seek reelection, but McHatton has opted to run for the seat left open by the resignation of Joan Gardner, who moved out of town.
The year remaining on her term will be filled by a special election held June 10.
McHatton will be opposed by Wayne Warner Sr. and Douglas A. Taft. Warner currently serves on the School Administrative District 61 School Board. Taft, a 30-year veteran of the Bridgton Police Department, resigned from the department last October.
Candidates vying for the two three-year terms are incumbent Bell, William Dyer Sr., Daniel Nowell and Brian K. Spear.
Incumbent Gordon Davis is running for reelection to the Planning Board. Challenging him is Walter “Zak” Horton IV, who currently serves on the Board of Appeals and the Wastewater Committee.
A single SAD 61 director slot is up for grabs, the equivalent of a school board. Stewart E. Sulloway is seeking to renew his three-year term and is challenged by Rita O’Conner.
Stevens H. Barker is currently unopposed in seeking to renew his three-year position as a Bridgton Water District trustee.
Meehan said anyone else who wishes to run for a town office has until 4 p.m. on Monday, April 28 to turn in their nomination papers. The forms need a minimum of 25 signatures from registered Bridgton voters.
The town election will be held on June 10 and the elected members will be sworn in at the June 11 annual town meeting.
