Rebekahs meet

The Rebekah Lodge 71 will meet April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall. This is a regular meeting. The program will be an auction with Josie Morrell in charge. Brenda Collett is in charge of the refreshments.

A big day

The sixth annual Community Day at Manchester School is Wednesday, April 2. The public is invited to the all-school project that focuses on helping the community both locally and

around the world.

Students in grades four and five learn to become responsible and involved citizens by participating in both classroom and school wide projects. This year’s school wide theme is “Kids Thinking Green.” Along with charitable projects, students focused on real world issues that affecting the environment through projects like recycling, supporting Windham’s D.A.R.E. program and donations to the Windham Food Bank. Students also collected their change to make a donation to Ruth’s Reusable Resources in Portland.

The day begins with an assembly at 8:45 a.m. highlighting

all of the student’s work with a slide show and student lead

presentations of classroom projects. The keynote speaker will be

environmentalist Cindy Thomashow from Unity College. She will bejoined by singer-songwriter Mike Noble.

Tax help

AARP provides free tax help at Unity Gardens, located on Tandberg Trail, from 2-7 p.m., Tuesdays through April 8, by appointment only. Please call 874-1000 or 211 for an appointment.

Kerry Robinson, an H&R Block tax professional, will be available from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, April 4 at the library to explain the Economic Stimulus Package as well as to help residents complete the 1040A form.

Hunt safely

There will be a hunter safety class at the Windham Public Library

Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 12, both from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. You must attend both days to receive your certificate.

There is a $5 fee. Please call the Town Clerk’s Office at 892-1900 if you are interested.

Open mic night

Friday, April 4, 7 at p.m. the Faith Lutheran Church, 988 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, will hold open mic night. Everyone is welcome, from musicians to singers, dancers, readers and storytellers. For more information call Marcia at 650-3972.

Meeting canceled

The Windham Health Council meeting scheduled for April 2 has been canceled.

Library events

The book group meets the last Tuesday of each month at 6:15 p.m. at the library. Library teas are held approximately every six weeks on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. No reservations are necessary and all ages are welcome. The next tea dates are April 29, June 10, July 22. Clothes needed

The Windham Clothes Closet is looking for good used children’s spring and summer clothing. All sizes from 6 months to 16 years for girls and boys are needed. We are all cleaning out our closets for spring so please remember the Windham Clothes Closet with all of your outgrown items. It is located on Route 202 across from the Friends Church and next to the Public Safety Building.

Do not forget the chili cook-off March 30 at the Windham

Veterans Center. The cook-off will benefit Windham Summerfest.
