A June 20 court date has been set for a Gray man accused of shooting at a vehicle last week while on bail on charges stemming from a 2007 home invasion.

Tyler McFarland, 26, was staying at a Mayall Road home when he got into an argument March 20 with a woman also staying at the home, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Michael Edes.

Edes said the woman called a friend to take her away at around 8:30 a.m. When the friend arrived, Edes said, McFarland ran into the house, grabbed a shotgun came back outside and fired.

The victim, who was driving the car was known to McFarland and they were not on good terms, according to Edes.

The driver called state police, who went to the home to find McFarland had fled in a car with his girlfriend. After several hours, Edes said, police reached McFarland on his cell phone and asked him to come to the barracks in Gray.

Edes said after interviewing McFarland at the barracks, it was apparent he had violated conditions of his bail. McFarland, indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury in January, is charged with robbery, elevated aggravated assault and burglary for allegedly entering the home of Anthony Nelson on Forest Lake Road in Gray Sept. 18, and beating him with a baseball bat.

Nelson suffered head and facial injuries in the attack. McFarland is also charged with stealing Oxycodone and more than $200 from the victim.

Told he was going to be arrested for being in possession of and using a firearm, McFarland turned violent, Edes said. Several officers were needed to subdue him.

He also kicked walls and drove his head through a wall in the barracks before being subdued, Edes added. Once in a police cruiser en route to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, McFarland tried to kick a window out of the car. Two troopers were called to help subdue him again, Edes said.

McFarland, convicted of several felony theft and assault charges dating back to 1999, now faces of charges of violating bail conditions, criminal threatening, assault, possession of a weapon by a felon and refusing to submit to arrest.

He was released Tuesday on $2,500 bail with conditions to avoid the victims of the attempted shooting and home invasion. He was also prohibited from using or possessing alcohol, drugs or firearms.

Gray resident Tyler MacFarland is accused of firing a gun at a car that pulled into the driveway of his home in Gray. He was arrested Thursday, and is already under indictment, accused of invading a home in Gray last September.
