Enjoy the winter
Come celebrate the fun of winter and discover the diversity of Libby Hill Forest Trail, Saturday March 1, at the Gray – New Gloucester Middle School, Libby Hill Road in Gray. Events include indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. Food will be available for sale including chili, pizza, chowder, hot beverages and bottled water or visitors can bring their own. The middle school will be open for lectures, warming up, bathrooms and tables for folks bringing their own food.
Outdoor events schedule:
• 8:45 a.m.: Kickoff
• 9 – 10 a.m.: Adult 5k cross country ski race
• 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.: Kids cross country ski race
• 10:30 a.m.: Adult snowshoe race,
• 11 a.m.: Kids snowshoe race
• 10:30 a.m.: Orienteering (also at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30)
• 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.: Libby Hill trail tour
• 12:30 – 3 p.m.: Sledding games
• 2 – 4 p.m.: Guided snowshoe trek, indoor events (appropriate for all ages)
• 10 – 11 a.m.: Tracking animals in winter by naturalist Brett Levin, • 11 a.m.: Noon – surviving in the woods with Nancy Long, Girl Scouts of Maine
• 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Going Green in the Woods with Holly Gillies, Outdoor Guide
• 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.: Predators – a presentation by the Chewonki Foundation.

Cards and fish
The Gray Sno Wolves host its annual Poker Fun and Fishing Derby Saturday, March 1 at St. Gregory’s church parking lot, Crystal Lake, Gray.
The church is off Route 26, two miles out of Gray Center, going north. Fishing starts at sunrise (register prior). The poker rally begins at 8 a.m. For more information call Bill Murphy at 657-2420.
Bean supper
A public supper will be held at Saturday, March 1 from 5 – 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 15 Lewiston Road (Route 100) in Gray. The menu includes beans, chop suey, coleslaw, hot dogs, breads and desserts. Meal prices are: Adults-$6, children under 12-$2.50, children under 5-free.
Dance with dad
The Gray-New Gloucester Parent-Teacher-Student Association will hold a Daddy-Daughter Dance, March 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gray-New Gloucester Middle School Gym on Libby Hill Road in Gray. Light refreshments and a professional photographer will be available. All proceeds will be donated to the association. Books and babies
Gray children’s librarian Kathy George will be conducting a workshop to give parents, childcare providers and other library patrons the tools to assist a child on the path of early literacy. The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m. to noon at a location to be announced. It is open to the public at no cost and sponsored through Adult & Community Education Family Literacy Services. Please call 657-2620 to register.
Grand opening
The Rite-Aid Pharmacy formally of 20 Portland Road, has moved into a beautiful new building on West Gray Road, close to the new bypass on Route 115 in Gray. The grand opening was Thursday Feb. 21 and was well attended by Rite-Aid officials, Gray Town Manager Deborah Cabana and town councilors, Rep. Sue Austin, R-Gray, area business owners and organizations, customers, families and friends.
Are you bored?
Gray is seeking volunteers to serve on town boards and committees. Some of those boards and committees needing volunteers are finance, recreation and conservation, Charles Barker Scholarship, community economic development and dry hydrant.
