Scouting Piracy

Approximately 300 Scouts and Scouters will be at the Casco Bay District’s annual Klondike Derby on Feb. 2 at the Point Sebago Resort.

The Klondike Derby is a Boy Scouts of America skills competition completed outdoors during the winter. The teams or Patrols have built sleds they will pull to carry the gear needed to compete in the nine stations designed to test their Scout skills.

The Scouts will not know in advance which skills they will be need to prepare for competing at the Klondike. The Klondike Derby has been organized and will be run by the Boy Scouts of the Casco Bay Chapter of Madocawanda Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.

The entrance to the Klondike Derby is the entrance to the Point Sebago Golf Course. The Klondike Derby which will start at 8:45 a.m. and conclude with an Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m.

WinterFest coming

The Maine WinterFest once again will be held in conjunction with the state’s largest Ice Fishing Derby. All snow and ice sculpture related events will be located within the Point Sebago Resort in Casco. An admission fee of $5 per adult and $1 per child will be charged at the gated entrance of the resort. Visit www.icefishingderby.com for more information.

Sundays at the Library

Casco Library Winter Workshops for adults and older teens will be held throughout February Sundays at 2 p.m.

Feb. 3: Heart Health

February is Heart Month. Lisa Magiera, personal trainer and owner of BKD Fitness Center, will discuss strategies for maintaining and improving cardiovascular health. Please wear loose fitting clothes for active participation.

Feb. 10: Quilting with Paper

Spend the afternoon working with quilting patterns and special papers to create cards or a canvas suitable for framing. There will be several projects and materials will be provided. Examples are on display at the library. Wokshop limit is 15.

Feb. 17: A Year of Healing From the Garden

Holly Ihloff, who has been researching medicinal uses for herbs for many years, will present an account of the remarkable healing realized by her, her family, and friends from an acre and a half property. Her plantings of beneficial trees, flowers and herbs, tended organically for over a decade, have provided support for the heart, shingles, hot flashes, nervousness, sore throats, athlete’s foot, and more. This is a workshop to guide you in your garden.

Feb. 24: Spa In A Jar Skin Care Clinic
