Mark Hoglund, the new owner of Dave Gutter’s Meat Market in Windham said he plans to keep the name for a year before changing it to Hoglund’s Custom Cuts.
“We’re going to do a nice, easy transition,” said Hoglund, 40, of Windham. He said he wants to keep the changes small for now.
“We’re just going to improve upon what he’s done, (Gutter) set some high standards,” said Hoglund.
The popular butcher shop was originally going to be sold to Dave Gutter Jr. at the same time, but he has enjoyed a successful reunion with his former band, the Rustic Overtones, and needed more time to concentrate on his musical career.
Dave Gutter Sr. founded the store in 1994 after two decades of being a Shop N Save meat manager. Now in his early 60s, Gutter still wanted to retire and Hoglund said he was contacted by the butcher.
“Dave called me up and asked me if I wanted to buy a meat store,” said Hoglund, who’s father and brothers are also butchers.
“I went right for it,” recalled Hoglund. “I didn’t have to think twice.”
He’s cut meat for the past 10 years in places like Scarborough and Old Orchard Beach.
Hoglund lives on Pope Road with his wife Tammy of 17 years. He said he does not want to disclose the price he paid for the business but called it “a hell of a deal.”
