Way To Go, Sierra

Casco resident Sierra Leavitt, 14, started skiing at age 2. Her entire family loves to ski. Ski Racing is a competitive sport that requires dedication, determination and skill. She is a second year J3 level skier. Sierra has raced on the Shawnee Peak team for the last three years.

This year, Sierra is attending Carrabassett Valley Academy as a freshman. She continues to do her best academic work and spends a few hours everyday on the snow. This has been her dream since she began racing.

Last year, Sierra qualified for the Eastern Regional Series at Okemo, Vt. This race was for top skiers. She continued to do well and qualified for the Junior Olympics in Stratton, Vt.

Sierra has seen her competition in the Eastern United States and knows she must remain focused and work hard to achieve her goals. It helps having the support of her family and friends. On the way to a race, she likes to have her dad drive fast to the mountain. Upon arriving, she takes her time getting to the start gate and lets the adrenaline build to the very last second. She said she is very happy at CVA and loves ski racing. Good Job, Sierra. There’s a Gold Medal with your name on it.
