A trial date has yet to be set for a Gorham man, who pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of gross sexual assault at an arraignment hearing Dec. 18 in Cumberland County Superior Court.
Dean T. Walsh, 36, 18 Mercier Way, was indicted Dec. 7 by a Cumberland County grand jury. Walsh was arrested by Gorham Detective Dana Thompson on Aug. 24 on charges of gross sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl.
Walsh was taken to Cumberland County Jail, but released on $25,000 cash bail following an initial court appearance.
Thompson said Friday that under bail conditions, Walsh is prohibited from contact with children under 16.
Walsh was scheduled for a bail hearing on Jan. 2 in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland. Neither Walsh’s lawyer, Michael Whipple, nor Assistant Cumberland County District Attorney Matt Tice, the prosecutor, could be reached by American Journal deadline to provide more details.
Gorham police arrested Walsh during an execution of a search warrant in August. Police acted after the girl had made statements to a family member.
According to court documents, the gross sexual assault incidents occurred between 2001 and 2007. Gross sexual assault is a Class A crime.
