Westbrook police are investigating a report of the gross sexual assault of a 26-year-old Westbrook woman Thursday.

According to police, the woman said she was punched, kicked and threatened with a large knife Thursday evening outside 92 Cottage Street. Westbrook Police Chief Bill Baker said she was not hospitalized.

Police stressed that they believe the assailant may have been a man the victim knew. Police have spoken to a person of interest in the case.
