Genealogy research

For those who are doing genealogy research, a new tool has become available. Windham Public Library cardholders may get a Portland Public Library card, simply by asking at the circulation desk. Once you have the card for Portland, you can go online, and access a genealogy category that provides information from Heritage Quest, including census data, PERSI data and much more. Kay Soldier, who does a great deal of this type of research, finds this new research tool invaluable.

Cancer Transportation Program

Road to Recovery is an American Cancer Society service program that provides cancer patients free transportation for treatments.

Transportation is provided according to the needs and available resources in the community. Road to Recovery is available for cancer patients who cannot drive themselves to treatment; who do not have insurance to cover transportation services; or who do not have family members or friends who can help with a ride. Some exceptions can be made in special situations.

Road to Recovery transportation is provided by trained volunteers who use their own vehicles to give this service. Patients must be ambulatory. If you know of a cancer patient who needs a ride to treatment, call 1-800-227-2345 (for any area in Maine) to make a referral to this valuable program.
