Thornton Academy pulled away from a pesky Bonny Eagle team on Saturday at the Biddeford Ice Arena, getting an 8-2 win over the Scots. The Trojans led just 2-1 going into the second period before a deluge of six goals over the final two periods gave them the victory.

The Trojans took an early lead with two goals in the first half of the opening period. Travis Dion scored at 4:50 of the first period and Cameron Green added another Trojan goal at 7:31.

Bonny Eagle (3-1) took advantage of a man-up situation and responded with a power play goal in the last minute of the first period to pull within 2-1. Travis Dunn’s score (assist to Zach Litif and Kayle Hamilton) gave the Scots a bit of momentum as they headed to the second period.

Try as they might, Bonny Eagle was unable to get the equalizer past Thornton goalie Chris Driscoll (14 saves for the game) in that middle period. The Trojans’ defense held off several Scots scoring chances to maintain their one-goal edge. Thornton regained the momentum with a short-handed tally by Zack Ouellette at 4:49 of the middle period.

The Scots refused to go away and they again pulled within one goal with a score by Brett Dostie (from Dunn) in the final minute of the period, sending the teams to the final 15 minutes of play with the Trojans clinging to a 3-2 advantage.

Thornton’s offense took over in the third period scoring five unanswered goals to ice the game resulting in the 8-2 final score.

Trojan goal scorers included two from Travis Dion (both shorthanded), one from Chris Stasio, another from Ouellette and a final score from Peter Remmes.
