1st Lt. Caroline Kennedy of Scarborough was recently promoted to her current rank while serving in Baghdad.
Kennedy, the daughter of Fred and Anne Kennedy of Scarborough, is a military intelligence platoon leader assigned to the 2d Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), the “Screaming Eagles.” Kennedy expects to be deployed in combat with her unit for approximately 15 months. Her military duties include leading a platoon of approximately 30 soldiers in their efforts to obtain combat military intelligence and the analysis of that intelligence as it relates to her unit’s assigned mission.
Kennedy graduated as the salutatorian of the Scarborough High School class of 2002. She graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in history. She is an honor graduate of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, located at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a recipient of the George C. Marshall award, which is the highest award an ROTC cadet can receive.
Kennedy is “air-assault” qualified, and she is expected to remain deployed overseas until the spring of 2009.
