Gov. John Baldacci last week issued a proclamation honoring the 20th anniversary of what has become Maine’s most popular Christmas season song: “The Maine Christmas Song,” written by Windham’s Con Fullum.
Fullam wrote the song in 1987 at the request of the late TV reporter, Bob Elliott, who approached Fullum to write a special Christmas song because he felt that Maine needed such a song to honor the state and Christmas.
The song was originally performed by the Windham Chamber Singers and directed by Dr. Rick Nickerson and is played around the state on many radio stations. The CD can be purchased at most book and music stores.
In recognition of this 20th anniversary the governor proclaimed December, 2007 as “The Maine Christmas Song Month” and further ordered this proclamation be observed by all citizens in Maine.
State Sen. Bill Diamond presented the proclamation to Fullum and Nickerson and the Chamber Singers and Con Fullam at the Windham High School Christmas Concert this past weekend.
