I have been following the story of the Buxton puppy mill since the animals were first taken into custody. Yesterday, I was browsing the Internet and saw how quickly the dogs who were siezed from the mill are being adopted. I think it’s fabulous.
However, it made me a little bit sad to see the other doggie faces on the sites (as well as massive amounts of cats and kittens, such as at the Harvest Hill shelter in Fryeburg, who is overun with cats right now, harvesthills.org), patiently awaiting their homes.
I know that they must have a list a mile long of nice families willing to adopt the puppy mill dogs, which I think is wonderful, as all of these animals are so deserving, but I wonder if people are so eager to rescue one of the dogs and puppies from the mill seizure, that they are overlooking many of the other dogs (and cats) who may not have as high profile a story, but are certainly deserving of loving homes as well.
I have three dogs in my house already (one that came from a shelter out of a puppy-mill situation, one who I adopted as a puppy after he was transferred from another shelter and another who has anxiety issues because he was bounced through four homes by the time he was a year-and-a-half old), along with three shelter kitties. So I have my hands full.
I am just hoping they find loving families, just like all the other dogs from the puppy mill seizure, especially around the holidays.
I know that they don’t know that its the holiday season, but I bet they sure would like to have a family of their own for Christmas.
