This year the students at Bonny Eagle Middle School are part of a study being conducted at the University of Maine.
Students are tested periodically for aerobic fitness using a widely used testing tool called PACER, which involves walking/running successive lengths of the gym floor gradually increasing the pace at regular intervals. The longer a student can keep pace with the test, the higher the score.
Students’ scores are reported to the university with a number rather than a name to keep the information confidential, however through the physical education teacher, a parent may request an analysis of their child’s scores from the university.
Once all the data is collected and analyzed over the next 12 months, the physical education department at the middle school will have valuable information for curriculum development and programming.
