Harlem Rockets Come to Town
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, two or three members of the Harlem Rockets basketball team will be at Sebago Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. The Harlem Rockets are similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, who showcase both their basketball and comedic talents.
The Rocket players will be visiting classrooms, and demonstrating their basketball skills in the gym, along with Sebago Elementary faculty members, and a few lucky students.
The Rockets speak about the importance of staying in school, and avoiding drugs and alcohol. While visiting the school, they will also give away some tickets to their performance that night, at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Region High School.
The opposing team will be the Lake Region Dream Team consisting of our own Sebago native, Jeff Cutting, himself a seventh-grade basketball coach. Other Dream Team members include Bill Callahan, Matt Hancock, Barry Woodbury, Steve Stewart, Cliff Walker and Jeff Hall, all Lakes Region coaches. Jim Moore of the Booster Club; Gordon Leach, businessman; Cal Nicholas, former Lake Region High School player; and Roger Lowell, principal of the high school, will all take the court that evening.
Tickets for the game may be purchased at Jordans Variety Store in Sebago, Casco and Bridgton Town Offices, Naples Town Hall and from the Lakes Region Athletic Department for $6 when purchased in advance. Tickets will be $7 when purchased at the door. For more information, contact Beth Latsey at 627-4187.
West Baldwin United Methodist Church Breakfast
The West Baldwin United Methodist Church located on Route 113, West Baldwin, is having an all-you-can-eat breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7-9 a.m. Members of the church will be serving pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee and orange juice.
Making Holiday Wishes
Denise Olsen now has a Christmas Wish List available for anyone who prefers to do their own shopping. You may stop in at the school and see her, to take item(s) off the list, or a person or family for whom you wish to purchase items.
She is still accepting monetary donations as well, if that is your preference. You can reach Olsen at school at 787-3701, Ext. 207, or call her at home at 787-2983. If she is not available, leave a message with your name and number and
she will get back to you as soon as possible.
She is extremely grateful to everyone who has already helped, and those who will be helping.
Sebago Fire Department 2008 Fund Drive
Here in Sebago, we live along the shores of the second largest lake in the state of Maine. So, as you can imagine, a lot of natives, visitors and vacationers spend a lot of time in, on or near the water. Every summer as well as winter, the Sebago Fire Department responds to many accidents not just on the lake, but on nearby ponds and rivers as well, to help those injured and/or in need of rescue. Whether a boating accident, or maybe someone has fallen through thin ice, the Sebago Fire Department is there to help.
A trained water rescue team in the town responds year-round to water accidents. But sadly, they are the only department on Sebago Lake, without a rescue boat. Having one will greatly reduce the response time to accidents.
Memobers of the Sebago Community Fire Company are starting a Fund Drive in 2008, to help support the Fire Department. They put on an annual pancake breakfast among other fund-raising events. All the money the department raises goes toward purchasing much-needed fire-fighting and rescue equipment. The 2008 goal is to raise $35,000 for ice and cold water rescue equipment and for a water rescue boat. If you would like to support this worthy cause, make donations payable to: Sebago Community Fire Company, P.O. Box 179, Sebago, Maine 04029. Or call 787-3434.
The Sebago Fire Department is made up of volunteers who donate their time and energies to keeping Sebago residents and visitors and their property safe from fires and accidents.
For medical emergencies, they have an on-duty daytime Emergency Medical Technician, backed by the Sebago Volunteer Emergency Medical Services. If you have an emergency, and need to call 911, make sure you give your name, phone number and address, describe the emergency situation, provide directions if asked, and be sure to stay on the phone with the dispatcher until help arrives.
