The Portland Water District recently hired two new environmental educators to its team – Rachel Lawler and John Wilson.
Rachel Lawler, a graduate of St. Michael’s College in Vermont, joins the district after working in Washington D.C. with the Nature Conservancy’s membership department and as a contract educator for the National Zoo.
In her new role at the district, Lawler will teach children in Gorham, Sebago and Standish to explore the world around them through water-related lessons.
John Wilson is from Hinsdale, N.H. He earned a degree in geography from Keene State College and gained valuable experience as a substitute high school teacher and working with the DeLorme Atlas Company.
Wilson will spend the next nine months teaching Windham and Raymond students lessons and activities about the water cycle, watersheds and more.
The Portland Water District conducts school-based education and provides educational resources through its Hydrologics program. The program brings hand-on environmental education to students of all ages in Greater Portland and the Lakes Region.
