Food Pantry Closed

The Windham Food Pantry will be closed on Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. They will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 13, for clients to pick up food.

Veterans

Mr. Robin Shepard, the State of Maine Veterans Advocate, will be at the Windham Veterans Center on Nov. 14 from 9-11a.m. He will be assisting veterans in applying for benefits. There is no charge for this service and no appointment is necesary.

Windham Historical Society

The Windham Historical Society held its annual meeting on Oct. 22 at the North Gorham United Church of Christ and 40 people enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner with all the fixings. New officers elected for 2008 are: President Elizabeth Winslow, Vice President Walter Lunt, Treasurer Linda Lunt, Corresponding Secretary Emma Gillman, Curator/Historian Kay Soldier.

The Society was founded in 1967 and is very active in presenting programs for school children, and now owns and has open to the public, three museum facilities. Hours are generally from May through November. New members are always welcome to join. Volunteer opportunities include landscaping and general yard work; painting, computer work, and archiving. Veterans Day Celebration

The Windham community is invited to attend a Veterans Day celebration at the Windham Veterans Center on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The local veterans have been working hard to improve the appearance of the veterans memorial monuments after they were attacked by vandals this summer.

There will be a dedication of a newly installed Veterans Memorial Garden, a very special flag presentation ceremony, military and civilian guest speakers, an unveiling of six military crests honoring the six branches of military service, and a reception with food and drink in the hall after the outside ceremony. Please plan to attend in support of your local veterans and all active duty military personnel.

Christmas Fair

There will be a Christmas Fair at the Odd Fellows Hall sponsored by the Rebekahs Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be many craft items and baked goods. Lunch will also be available.

Holiday Fair

The South Windham Public Library is holding a holiday fiar Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Windham-Gorham Rod & Gun Club, located at 8 Towpath Road, Gorham. Handmade fabric items, wooden items, baked goods, knitted items and more will be available. Lunch will also be available. Proceeds from lunch benefit the South Windham Public Library.

Holiday Craft Fair

The Windham Athletic Booseters and holding a Holiday Craft Fair at the Windham High School Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adding to the fun will be more than 100 crafters, refreshments, door prizes, kiddies craft table and much more.

Help for Christmas

Starting Nov. 5 families began applying for help from the town of Windham with Christmas. They anticipate between 140-160 families seeking help. Any organization, church, school, business or private citizen wishing to adopt a family for the holidays should contact Madeline Roberts at 892-1931. The pantry also accepts gift cards to supermarkets, donations of turkeys and food to fill the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets as well as special treats. Together we can all make the holidays bring smiles to many faces.

Flu Shots

Flu Shots will be given in the Community Center gym on Nov. 15 from 2-4:30 p.m. The cost is $30 unless you are a senior citizen and bring your medical card. The Windham Health Council will be assisting with the clinic.
