Vote Nov. 6

The Nov. 6 state and county referendum vote is fast approaching. Absentee ballots are available at the town clerk’s office Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clerk’s office will be open late for absentee voting or registering to vote on Thursday, Nov. 1 until 6:30 p.m. All Windham residents vote at the Windham High School in the Auxiliary Gym from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 6. Holiday Fair

The Windham Hill United Church of Christ ‘s Holiday Fair will be held Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be more shopping areas this year in some of the rooms in the basement.

Library Book Group

The library book group meets the last Tuesday of each month at 6:15 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. The Oct. 30 selection is “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen. The Nov. 27 selected author is Louise Erdrich. Attendees may choose any of her books and come to the meeting prepared to share their thoughts, criticisms and comments on her writing. Open House

The staff of Riverview Physical Therapy, located at 48 Tandberg Trail, has slated an open house Nov. 1 from 5-6:30 p.m. Among topics that will be discussed are: Stretches to do when transitioning from outdoor to indoor sports; reducing back pain for women with young children; and ideas on basic ergonomics. Those who stop in can meet Mike Smith, physical therapist and learn how physical therapy may benefit you or someone you know. Refreshments will be served

and there will be a sign-up to win a door prize.

Holiday Craft Fair

Windham Food Pantry

As the holiday season is rapidly approaching the Windham Food Pantry needs donations more than ever. It is expected that the food pantry will receive up to 140 requests for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Any group, organization, church, business, school, or private citizen that wishes to sponsor a family should contact Madeline Roberts at 892-1931.

The holiday basket normally contains a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, walnuts, fruit, vegetables and a pie. Cash donations are also accepted to purchase turkeys for baskets. The goal of the pantry is to make sure no one goes hungry in Windham now or during the holiday season. And with the help of the community the pantry can achieve this goal.

The pantry is also accepting sponsorship of families for Christmas toys/gifts. Donations may also be sent to: Windham Food Pantry, Town of Windham, 8 School Road, Windham, Maine 04062 or you can drop it off at the Food Pantry 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Church Supper

Don’t forget the public bean supper at the Windham Hill Church Oct. 27. The price is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Get Ready to READ

The Windham Child Care Providers will be sponsoring a workshop on “From Babies to School Age: Let’s Get Ready to READ,” on Thursday Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. The guest speakers will be Windham School Psychological Service Provider Lisa Backman and Windham Special Education Educator Danielle Donnini. The fee for non-members is $5, members are free.
