Windham town councilor and fix-it guru Kaile Warren put Windham on the national news last weekend when he showed his home improvement know-how on the Gray Road home of Beth and Donnie Hall on the Saturday Early Show on CBS.
“I thought from an aesthetic standpoint, this home is perfect for television,” said Warren. Besides a regular contributor for CBS, Warren is an author and the CEO and founder of the Rent-A-Husband handyman company. He said the Hall’s home has a beautiful, functional interior and a spectacular view of open, green hills – perfect for his segment on preparing a home for the cold winter months.
“I’m honored to have them here,” said Beth Hall. She got up at 4 a.m. and cooked two breakfast casseroles and a plate of muffins for the news crew.
“I wanted them to know it was the Maine hospitality way,” she said. The half-dozen crew members said they were impressed with the generous spread.
Warren started his four-and-a-half minute segment on winterizing by showing how to wrap a box air conditioner to keep air from entering the house and how to protect an external faucet from the cold.
Warren said on the broadcast that the biggest draft problems in homes are through electrical outlets. He showed how a plate inserted behind the cover can block the flow of cold air.
In the winter, according to Kaile, ceiling fans should run clockwise to push the warm air down from the ceiling. He said this will save 10 percent of energy costs. In the summer, fans should resume a counterclockwise direction and can save 40 percent of cooling costs.
Warren said CBS executives were impressed with the segment, which used fast-paced camera work to weave in and out of the house. He said he was glad Windham was seen by millions of Americans all over the nation.
“I love this town, and will promote it to the nation everywhere I go,” said Warren.
