The Nimble Thimbles quilting group raised about $1,000 at last Saturday’s quilt show and raffle at the North Windham Union Church, United Church of Christ.

Co-president Lisa Simmons said about 135 people attended. She said the good weather kept attendance down.

“In October, we do better on rainy days because everyone’s trying to clean up their yard” when it’s nice out, she said. She has been quilting for 17 years and said the quilt show is a chance to display her club’s art as well as raise money.

“We come from all walks of life, from homemakers to engineers,” said club co-president Suzy Swetz. She said she thinks of quilting as a serious art form and loves seeing other peoples’ work.

“The thing I like about quilting is there are so many different things you can do,” said Simmons. She said because of her quilting passion she owns more tools than her husband.
