The operator of a boat involved in a fatal collision in August on Long Lake in Harrison was indicted on three charges last week.

Robert LaPointe, 38, of Medway, Mass., faces charges of manslaughter, aggravated drunken driving and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon after his 32-foot boat sliced through a 14-foot boat owned Terry Raye Trott, 45 of Harrison at 9:10 p.m. Aug. 11.

Trott and his companion, Susanne Groetzinger, 44, of Berwick, were killed in the collision. LaPointe and 19-year-old Nicole Randall of Bridgton, a passenger on LaPointe’s boat, where thrown into the water and eventually swam to shore. Both sustained minor injuries.

Maine Game Warden Jason Luce joined Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson in a press conference Friday, as she announced the indictments, which came after an investigation involving more than 30 members of the Maine Warden Service.

According to printed reports, Anderson said LaPointe was driving under the influence and too fast when his boat, powered by twin 435 horse power engines hit Trott’s boat. Anderson said LaPointe had a blood alcohol level of .11. The legal limit in Maine is 0.08.

A date has not been set for LaPointe to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court to make a plea.
