During the month of October, the Portland Fire Museum, located at 157 Spring St. in Portland, is featuring photographs and prints of the Fire of 1947. There is also an audio recording of then-Portland Fire Chief Oliver Sanborn discussing the events.
On Friday, Oct. 5, Joyce Butler, author of “Wildfire Loose, The Week Maine Burned,” will be on hand to sign copies of her book starting at 6 p.m.
The museum will hold an open house Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when Spring Street will close and antique fire trucks will be on display.
