In Gray, Newbegin Gymnasium was built in 1937 with money given by George Newbegin. It was located on the grounds of Pennell Institute on land that Pennell Alumni and Perley Sawyer purchased for an athletic field. Today, Newbegin Gym is used for a wide variety of sports and community events and is the center of the town’s Parks and Recreation Department. Courtesy of Gray Historical Society
