Windham breaks through with first win

Portland 2

Windham 14

The score of the Windham Eagles’ first win of the season seems more appropriate for an out-of-control baseball game than a football game, but a win is a win.

The Eagles (1-2) gave up just a safety on their way to a 14-2 home win over the Portland Bulldogs (0-3).

Sophomore Jack Mallis gave the Eagles all the points they would need in the second quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run.

The Eagles added a fourth quarter insurance touchdown when quarterback Jackson Taylor found Travis Guerrette for a 34-yard touchdown strike.

The game could count as a virtual shutout for the Eagles as the Bulldogs’ only points came in the third quarter when Windham elected to take a safety by snapping the ball out of the end zone rather than punting.

Windham will look to build off the win this Friday night when they travel to South Portland to take on the Red Riots in a 7 p.m. game. Both teams come into the game with identical 1-2 records, with South Portland coming off a 48-7 loss at Bonny Eagle last week.
