Two Westbrook police dogs, Dragon and Samson, will soon be on patrol in style. Each canine’s cruiser will be outfitted with state-of-the-art dog cages thanks to firefighters. The Valentine Hose Co. and Presumpscot Hose Co., housed at the Mechanic Street station, each donated $2,500 to buy the cages. Capt. Gene Dunn of Westbrook Fire Department hands a check last week to Steve Crocker, a Westbrook police canine officer with his dog, Dragon, for $5,000 to buy two, modern dog cages for cruisers. Also pictured are, from left, firefighter Tom Selby, Fire Chief Gary Littlefield, Police Sgt. Mike Sanphy, Capt. Rick Dorr of Presumpscot Hose Co., Shawn Adams and police Capt. Tom Roth.
Adams, a city employee, is paying for shipment of the cages from Pennsylvania and will install them. Adams is also buying food and water containers for the cages.
