One of seven teenagers arrested in connection with a robbery at Ferry Beach last month remained in jail this week, as police continued to investigate the theft.

The incident occurred on Thursday, May 24. According to Officer John Gill, the two males, who are 16 and 17 years old, reported that acquaintances of theirs invited them to the beach to hang out.

“They thought they were going as friends,” Gill said.

When they arrived, a larger group of teenagers approached them and demanded cash. According to the youths, three of them were armed – one with a knife and two with padlocks tied to bandannas. The suspects fled the scene with the cash, the exact amount of which Gill said was yet to be determined, but was in the hundreds of dollars. Gill said the police are also still trying to determine why the youths were carrying large sums of money.

Three Scarborough residents – Shawn Berube, 18; Nicholas Murdoch, 18, and Christopher Lamb, 19 – were arrested and charged with two counts of robbery on Saturday, May 25. Since then, four more arrests have been made. They were Nicholas Pondant, 18, of Old Orchard Beach; Zackary Pearson, 18, of Biddeford; Jennifer Dandrow, 18, of South Portland, and Brianna Brown, 18, of Scarborough.

All seven suspects were incarcerated in Cumberland County Jail. As of Monday evening, Lamb was the only one who was still in jail.

“Right now we believe we’ve accounted for everyone that was involved,” Gill said. “We are still looking at the roles other people may have played.”
