Western Maine Class A and Class B baseball prelims were scheduled for earlier this week and all three area high school teams were set to open tournament play Tuesday, June 5.
Scarborough started the year at 1-7, but they played well in the second half of the season and won four of their last seven games to qualify for the West A tourney as the No. 11 seed. The Storm (5-10) was scheduled to play at No. 6 Marshwood (9-6) on Tuesday with the winner moving into the regional quarterfinals against No. 3 Portland (12-3) on Thursday, June 7.
The Storm lost to Marshwood during the regular season by a 10-6 score back on April 26. They also dropped a 4-0 regular season decision at Portland on May 5.

South Portland hosts a prelim
The South Portland baseball team finished the season with a flourish winning four of its last five games to grab the No. 8 seed in this year’s West A tournament bracket. The Red Riots (8-7) hosted No. 9 Biddeford (7-8) on Tuesday with the winner facing off against top-seeded Deering (14-1) in a regional quarterfinal on Thursday, June 7.
The Riots beat Biddeford during the regular season with a 4-0 shutout and they fell to Deering by a 9-1 margin.

Cape qualifies for post-season
The Cape Elizabeth baseball team won three of its last four games to finish the regular season at 7-9 – good enough for the No. 11 seed in this week’s Western Maine Class B tournament.
The Capers were scheduled to play at No. 6 Fryeburg (9-7) on Tuesday, June 5, in a regional prelim. The winner of that game must face No. 3 Mountain Valley in Rumford in a regional semifinal on Saturday. Cape dropped a 5-3 decision to Fryeburg back on May 5.
Cape concluded its regular season last week with a 7-1 triumph at Traip Academy. Pitcher Ryan Boyington went the distance allowing just five hits as he picked up his fourth win of the season. Pat Murphy led the way offensively with three hits and Adam Danielson added a pair of RBI.
