As the Little League season reaches the halfway point, Tickets Unlimited has moved to the top of the pack with three victories last week. Tickets defeated Westbrook Kiwanis 5-1 in a nicely played game by both sides. Mike Pena pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out 11 batters and only allowing two hits. Derek Bouchard struck out the final batter to close out the game. Zack Bean and Noah Collins had the two hits for Kiwanis.
Austin Blake started the scoring for Tickets with a double to the fence scoring Pena. The game-breaker was a two-run homer by Andrew McCarthy to make the score 4-1.
Tickets won another game when they jumped out early on the Eagles with seven runs in the first two innings for a 7-4 win. Mike Pena pitched three strong innings striking out six. Jeremiah Steele had the key hit with a two-run triple. The Eagles fought back in the fifth inning with three runs capped off by a base hit by Ethan Nash.
Tickets also broke out the lumber with 19 hits against the Lions. Home runs by Mike Pena and Andrew McCarthy led the way with Derek Bouchard adding four hits. James Phelps and Curtis Knapton also got their first Little League hits. On the mound, McCarthy struck out seven in five innings with Bouchard finishing up on the mound for the victory. Ryan and Jack Gilligan both had hits for the Lions while Brett Goodnow added a hit and two RBI.
Messer moved into a tie for second place with Sappi by defeating the mill team 10-2. The key to the win was the pitching of Austin Watts who went six strong inings. Offensively, rookie Zack Hayes had a triple and Kyle Schumacher got on base three times. Sappi was limited to two hits off the bats of Cameron McClain and Kaleb Kent.
Messer also defeated Dairy Queen 14-4 behind the pitching of Andy St Clair and the hitting of St Clair, Kyle Schumacher and Cody Champagne (three hits apiece.) Dairy queen suffered a rough first inning, but settled down and played a great game the rest of the way. They were led by the pitching of David Ryan and Josh Tardiff. John O’hara led the way offensively for Dairy Queen.
Dairy Queen received another strong pitching outing from Amber Gedaro and strong relief work by Conner Richardson before falling to Phoenix Welding, 6-2. Sappi bounced back with a 13-1 win over Phoenix Welding behind the pitching of Andrew Lamson and Josh Ames. Cameron McClain had two home runs to lead the way offensively.
Westbrook Kiwanis came back to beat the Eagles with good pitching performances from Zack Bean, Aaron Duncanson and Kevin Grescoviak. Kiwanis was led with some key hits from Tristan Savage, DJ Breunig, Noah Collins and Aaron Duncanson. Kiwanis trailed the Eagles 2-1 in the last inning before scoring three times to seal the victory. Brenden Richardson pitched three good shutout innings for the Eagles.
In their first game of the week, the Eagles nipped the Lions 3-2. Cale Bollig led the way with three hits for the Eagles, while Jack Gilligan had two hits for the Lions.
Action continues Monday through Friday at the Little League complex with all games beginning at 5:30 p.m.
