After two full weeks of very competitive action, Tickets Unlimited and Sappi find themselves at the top of the pack with identical records of 5-1. A very strong Kiwanis team is right there with a 4-1 record followed closely by Messer, the Eagles and the Lions.

Sappi started out the week by defeating the Eagles 7-4. The score was tied at 2-2 when Sappi sent 10 men to the plate in the third inning. Five walks and two hits led to five runs for the mill team with the big blow being a two-run double by Dallas Turpin. Tim Rudd knocked in two runs for the Eagles.

In the premier match-up of the week, Kiwanis defeated Sappi 9-2 behind Zack Bean’s 14 strikeout performance. The previously undefeated Sappi team scored on a single by Keenan Lowe and a two-run homer by Cameron McLain in the bottom of the first inning. However, that was all they could muster off of Bean who shut out Sappi the rest of the way.

Offensively, D.J. Breunig led the way with a home run, triple and double. Aaron Duncanson also hit a home run and Noah Collins had a triple.

Kiwanis also defeated a very pesky Dairy Queen team 14-12 on Saturday morning. Derek Breunig broke a 12-12 tie in the final inning with a triple and he later scored on a wild pitch to take the lead. Kevin Grescoviak provided an insurance run with a solo home run to left-center and he pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. DQ pitcher David Ryan had a fine game in relief. Noah Thompson smacked a two-run double and later stole home.

Tickets Unlimited scored a 10-1 win over Messer Trucking. Mike Pena picked up the victory going four-plus innings with relief help from Derek Bouchard. Pena and Austin Blake had three hits each while Marty Pena added two key hits early in the game. Cody Champagne led Messer with two hits.

Tickets also beat Phoenix Welding, 13-3. Jeremiah Steele was the difference in this game, pitching extremely well and hitting his second home run of the season. Andrew McCarthy and Derek Bouchard had three hits each including home runs. Garrett McCarthy played some great defense in the field making two nice catches and he added two hits at the plate. Phoenix swung the bat well putting the ball in play most of the game.

Messer also had a good week picking up two victories after that loss to Tickets.

In their first win, they pounded the Lions 15-2 behind the pitching of Evan Dipietrantonio. Offensively, Tyler Eastman and Andrew St Clair had three hits apiece and Ian King chipped in with two hits.

Messer later defeated Phoenix Welding 10-3 as Kyle Schumacher and Dipietrantonio led the way with three hits apiece. Cody Champagne went 2-for-2 to help support the offense.

The Eagles stayed in the race with a victory over Dairy Queen, 8-2. Offensively, Cale Bollig and Paul Patriotti led the way with multiple hit games and right fielder Mike Nutter turned in the defensive gem of the game by throwing out a runner at home plate. Four Eagle pitchers combined for the three-hit victory. Amber Gedaro pitched five strong innings for DQ and Abe (Hoover) Thompson led the defense with several great plays at shortstop to keep the game close.

Action continues Monday through Friday at the Little League complex with all games beginning at 5:30 pm.
