A fatal accident on Route 107 last week claimed the lives of two young Sebago men.
Gregory Grant, 25, was driving a Ford Explorer owned by his passenger Nicholas Olsen, 23, around 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 when the vehicle went onto the shoulder and was overcorrected, landing on its roof in a ditch.
///////State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland said speed is not believed to be a factor and said it will be weeks before toxicology reports can determine if alcohol was involved.//////
Friends remember the two young men as a pair of “guy’s guys,” interested in manly recreations like ATV driving, boating and dirt biking.
“They liked to go fishing and stuff like that,” said Ashley Ross, 19, who lived with Grant. She said the two were considering settling down and have children together.
“Greg didn’t know what he was doing when working on vehicles, but he liked to act like he did,” she said.
Ross said she met Grant a few years ago through a friend.
“We were ready to start a family,” she said.
Ross said Grant was a fun, humorous man and liked to help people. He also loved his American bulldog, Otis.
“It was like his baby, he brought it everywhere with us,” she said.
Ross said Olsen used to joke around a lot and purposely speak in nonsense words like “shabappa” to annoy her. She said he and Grant had a similar interests.
Surviving is Grant’s daughter, Lila Rose Grant, 7, from a previous relationship.
“He was great with kids,” said Juanita Grant, Gregory Grant’s sister. “My daughter just adored him.”
“We lost our dad the same way; there were so many parallels,” she said.
Their father, Gregory Grant Sr., was killed in a vehicle accident in 2002.
Juanita Grant said her brother liked the simple things in life and was easy to please. She said he would love any food placed before him, including a terrible macaroni and cheese dish she made with parmesan and mozzarella after running out of the proper ingredients.
“He said it was delicious,” she said.
She said her brother used to call her just to say “I love you” or to sing to her off-key. She said she was the only one who loved his singing.
Juanita Grant and Ashley Ross are hosting a benefit supper for Gregory Grant Friday, April 27 at the Sebago Town Hall $7 a plate.
