Members of the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce say they need a new chamber hall.
“We’ve outgrown our space,” said Barbara Clark, the executive director, from her office on Route 302 in Windham.
The chamber shares the building with a tuxedo shop and a tanning salon.
“We have to go elsewhere to have a board of directors meeting,” said Clark.
She said the chamber has not picked a location for a new office, but has some criteria in mind.
The chamber runs a tourism information booth, the Sebago Lakes Welcome Center, next to Allied Real Estate on Route 302. Clark said the booth has no bathrooms and the staff has to use the one next door.
Chamber members would like to have a new building that includes a new information booth in the manner of a duplex house. Clark said the board of directors want it to be located next to Route 302 on the same side as Little Sebago Lake, to catch tourists who are arriving instead of leaving.
The lease on the current chamber building runs out in August.
“We’re looking to lease, build or buy,” said Clark. She said a price hasn’t been set, but the desired location would be in Raymond or Windham “to be in the heart of the business district.”
Clark said the new office would be paid for by the chamber’s fundraising events and private donations. She said donations can be sent to the chamber at P.O. Box 1015. Those with questions can call 892-8214.
