Long time Windham resident, Robert Daghlan Timmons (1872-1958), who was a descendant of Irish immigrant Patrick Timmons, settled on the Swett Road about 100 years ago. In 1766, John Swett and his family came to Windham (then called New Marblehead) and lived on a 100-acre lot bounded by Webb Road and Swett Road. The house this family built was occupied by Swett family members until the late 1800s. In the early 1900s (about 1910. Timmons came to Windham from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with his wife and children, and eventually two of his brothers (Gordon and John) and settled down on the old Swett homestead. Dage (as he was known) and his wife had 10 children. Many people in Windham remember him and his love of horses. Some of Timmons’ descendents continue to live in Windham and many in nearby towns.
